It is being reported that MLS side Atlanta are in talks to sign Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis [@FabrizioRomano].

The 28-year-old is expected to leave the Scottish champions during this January transfer window as he seeks more game time.

He is supposedly frustrated at playing second fiddle to Kyogo Furuhashi who hit 20 goals for the season at the weekend.

Giakoumakis was back on the scoresheet for Ange Postecoglou’s side for the first time since October as they booked their place in the final of the Viaplay Cup after defeating Kilmarnock 2-0 at Hampden almost two weeks ago.

He was left out the following match against St Mirren having sustained an injury and was then left out the squad at the weekend for the game against Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup as Postecoglou said that there was a couple of things ‘going on in the background’.

J-League side Urawa Red Diamonds looked as though they were favourite to sign the former VVV-Venlo forward but no agreement has been reached.

As it looks likely that Celtic will sign Korean Republic forward Oh Hyeon-gyu, he appears to be the replacement for Giakoumakis.

Since arriving at the club in the summer of 2021, he made a massive impact in the second part of Postecoglou’s first season and scored many an important goal that helped the Hoops win the league title.
