What is your favourite Celtic memory?
Seville was unbelievable if a bit hot .  Coming back twice against an outstanding Porto team showed great spirit (don’t forget they also won the Champions League the following season).  I also got my tickets direct from Celtic at around £30 which was brilliant especially considering how big a ticket scramble it became.  The whole journey was great too, knowing you were representing your club in a European final was immense.  Glasgow to London. London to Barcelona. Barcelona to Malaga. Malaga to Seville (and back). Looking forward to doing it all again for our next European final 🙂

Do you remember your first game?
It was definitely a home Scottish cup tie around 1985 or 1986 which ended in a draw.  I honestly cannot remember who it was against it was that dull and I was only 6 or 7.  My first real memory was 20th March 1993 when we beat Rangers 2-1 on my birthday.  John Collins (my hero) and Andy Payton scored and I was right in the middle of the jungle.  Absolutely amazing.

Who is the worst player you have personally seen at Celtic?
Danny Fox. Absolutely rotten. Looked like he was totally overawed with the whole move and size of the club.  He never really settled which obviously never helped the situation and possibly some of the worst free kicks I have ever seen.  Honkin, absolutely honkin, I’d rather player Mo Camara.  Amazed we made money on him.

Who is the best player you have personally seen at Celtic?
Lubo Moravcik.  The best two footed player I have ever seen and scored wonder goals for fun.  Skill, passing, touch, shooting, he could do everything with ease.

Thumbs up from Lubo

Name your own personal starting XI from every Celtic player in history.
I’m going to base it on players I have seen rather than those I have heard about.  A crazy 2-1-3-1-3 Formation is the only way I could fit my favourite players in:

Player Name Position Reason
Artur Boruc GK I keep changing my mind on who the best keeper is between the holy goalie and Fraser Forster.  I loved watching Boruc and he was absolutely mental so he wins for pure entertainment value although in terms of quality I think they are close. Boruc has produced it in major international tournaments, something that FF has still to do.
Dianbobo Balde CD The best CD I have ever seen.  An absolute monster and very fast for a big defender.  The fans absolutely loved him and it was a shame the way his career ended with us.
Paul Elliot CD Took a while to settle but was an inspirational defender.  Won everything in the air. A magnificent player who had a great career and is never shy in his admiration of Celtic
Paul McStay MF One of the finest midfielders of his generation.  Could do everything. Pass, shoot, tackle.
John Collins MF My hero when I started going to the games.  Brilliant goalscorer and similar to the Maestro in that has was a great all round midfielder.  Regularly scored in big games and loved scoring against Rangers.  Magnificent left foot (he bends the ball round the Rangers wall)
Lubomir Moravcik MF The best player I have ever seen. As per Question 4 above
Kris Commons MF The best Celtic player of the last few years.  Bargain signing who has scored and created many of our goals.  Always shoots on site (don’t say that too quickly) which I love to see.
Paolo Di Canio FW Hard to believe he was only here for a season.  I watched him in every game, home and away that season.  An absolute genius who got better and better every game (as he proved in England)
Henrik Larsson FW The best all round striker I have ever seen.  His goalscoring record is unbelievable and he has scored at every level.
Chris Sutton FW The best center forward I have ever seen. I have never seen a player hold the ball up so well.  Always turned up for the big games and loved skelping Rangers as well, which he did the majority of the time.
Jorge Cadete FW The best finisher I have ever seen.  I honestly don’t remember him missing many chances.  A top class international striker.

Gordon Strachan or Martin O’Neill? And why?
Martin O’Neill.  I have equal respect for both and have chosen MON as he came and lifted the whole club, raising  the standards expected of everyone connected  with Celtic.  He also took us to a European final.  We also had better players when MON was in charge (which increased my enjoyment of that period) in Larsson, Sutton, Hartson, Lennon, Lambert, Petrov, Mjallby etc so it’s an easy decision for me.

How do you get your daily dose of Celtic news?
Twitter, CQN (Lurker and very rare poster now) and Newsnow Celtic which links most of the relevant Celtic stories of the day.  The Celtic website has also greatly improved so I will check that regularly.

What do you make of some season ticket holders needing to be move seats to accommodate UEFA and their sponsors on European nights?
It’s a really difficult situation for the club although from what I have heard it could be communicated a lot better.  Peter Lawwell acknowledged this at the AGM in 2012 and also stated that Celtic have told UEFA it is unacceptable to receive late notifications for seats. I therefore hope to see some movement in a positive direction.

What are your thoughts on Celtic potentially playing Champions league qualifiers at Murrayfield next season?
No other option.  It’s a one off period which will bring the club worldwide coverage with the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth games.  If we are good enough to qualify then it shouldn’t cause us too many problems qualification wise.  The long term benefits of the opening ceremony far outweigh any short term stadium moves.  Celtic Park is special on European nights but a lot of people forget it’s the Celtic support that make it special.  Pack Murrayfield with 67,000 fans and an amazing atmosphere will still be generated.

Do you think Celtic will ever leave Scottish football? If Yes, to where?
No.  Very difficult to assess what may happen in the future.  New laws such as Bosman changed football forever and you never know.  At the moment it looks too difficult to achieve so our short term goal has to be promoting and raising the standard of Scottish football at every turn at the same time as trying to bring in greater funding to the game. We need to explore every avenue to make up for the TV money shortfall that we have.     Celllllllllllllllllttttttticccccccccccccccccccccccccccc o/
