MARVIN COMPPER looks to be trying his best to push through a move away from the club this month after stating back in November he was done at Celtic.

The German defender, who was signed for £1million from Leipzig last January has only made one single appearance for the bhoys in the Scottish Cup.

Since then, the Celtic manager has always insisted Marvin has struggled for fitness. However, the defender publicly hit back at those claims and refuted what his manager was saying.

In late November the 33-year-old seemed ready to move on after initially not wanting to go in the summer when Rodgers told him he was free to go.

“Unfortunately, I do not play much of a role with our manager and that’s why I want to take a look around during the winter break.

“Whether it will be in the Bundesliga, I do not know. I’m pretty open.

“Although I will be 34 in the summer, I still have a lot in the tank. Unfortunately, I can not show it at Celtic.” Compper admitted to SunSport.

Rodgers was very clear on what he told Marvin at the start of Celtic’s season, but the defender chose to stay beyond the summer window.

Speaking back in October, Rodgers said: “I made it clear to him in the summer there were players who came in during that six months and they had jumped ahead of him.“

“It was made clear to him if he wanted to play regularly in the last few years of his career then he’d have to move.”

The Celtic manager wants new faces in but he has also made it clear his squad has gotten too big. Compper could be the catalyst in seeing more fringe players leave this January as Celtic look to trim the fat.
