Luca Connell should be a name brought up by the developmental coaches to our new manager come June.

We’re not saying this lad is ready to be an all-out first team player but there’s something there and it has to be nurtured and developed.

Luca was brought in under Neil Lennon but wasn’t given the time of day by the former Celtic boss. Coaches at Bolton raved about the midfielder’s potential and people in the Irish setup also making similar noises.

Asked if he wanted to continue to play nothing friendlies at Lennoxtown or drop down the divisions to play for Queens Park the rest of this season – the Irishman happily took the game time.

It’s proved to be a great move for Luca and Queens Park. The Irish U21 midfielder influencing most of the games he’s played.

On Tuesday night he grabbed another assist for the League 2 champions. A brilliantly floated ball in put it on a plate for his teammate.

Luca also appears to be very handy at set pieces, swinging some very dangerous balls into the box.

David Turnbull has become the man to do that for Celtic next season but you can’t have enough creative options.

Connell should be looking kick-on next season. It’s clear his ability is well beyond league 2.
