Celtic Women had to be very patient on Wednesday night as they continued to frustrate the visiting Rangers side who squandered some golden opportunities to win the game.

Mariah Lee became the derby hero with her 80th minute goal inside Celtic Park.

Lee came on as a second half substitute when Rangers Women were starting to run out of gas. It proved to be a shrewd move by Fran Alonso in the end.

There was brave performances all over the park and a return to the squad for Celtic captain Kelly Clark who got the last five minutes was also pleasing to see.

The goal itself has shades of Georgios Samaras and his goal at Ibrox back in 2011.

We paired the two of them together and it’s just about spot on.

It was a must-win for Celtic on the night. A defeat would have put them eight points behind their Glasgow rivals.

Instead, they gave their own chances in the title race a much-needed shot in the arm and put themselves in a position to really challenge for a Champions League spot.

Glasgow City have pulled further ahead and are looking strong for the title at the minute.
