Celtic’s recent Champions League campaign, marred by the latest disheartening defeat to Lazio, has brought to light significant challenges within the squad, as identified by manager Brendan Rodgers. This setback is yet another in a series of group stage disappointments, leaving Celtic with a mere point from five matches.

Rodgers pinpointed a “glaring” issue within the team – a lack of experienced, high-quality players capable of making a difference in such elite competitions. Despite acknowledging commendable performances from his squad in the tournament, he emphasised the necessity of bolstering the team with seasoned talent, particularly in the upcoming January transfer window.

Reflecting on the overall quality, Rodgers stressed the importance of having the best players available, a factor he believes is crucial in bridging the gap in European football. The need for players with experience and genuine quality was highlighted as a key area for improvement in future transfer windows.

The commitment and effort of the current squad were praised by Rodgers, despite the shortcomings. He noted that the team showed competitive spirit throughout the game but ultimately conceded two disappointing goals due to lapses in possession and strength.

Rodgers’ comments underline the critical need for strategic reinforcements to enhance the squad’s capabilities in international competitions. With the January transfer window in sight, Celtic’s approach to addressing these issues will be crucial in shaping their future European campaigns

  2. The first transfer needed is Rodgers for a real manager.

The past few weeks have seen us playing uninspired football not seen at this club since Rodgers blew 10 in a row and then blew out the door to tank Leicester city.
