Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that two separate teams will be fielded for each half of the upcoming testimonial match honouring club legend James Forrest.
The match against Spain’s Athletic Club will serve as the final opportunity for the Celtic squad to gather game-time minutes, thereby finetuning their readiness for the forthcoming season.
Speaking to the press after the recent match against Wolves, Rodgers provided insight into his decision. He stated, “On Tuesday, we’ll play two 45 minutes because players need to get some minutes into their legs and it’ll be our final preparation before the season starts.” [Viaplay]
While it does allow some players who haven’t played a lot of minutes this pre-season, it enables the entire squad to partake in the celebration of James Forrest’s illustrious career at Celtic.
Forrest, whose contribution to Celtic FC has been nothing short of monumental, will undoubtedly appreciate the opportunity to share the pitch with a broad cross-section of his colleagues, old and new. Meanwhile, fans will enjoy the chance to see an extensive roster of players pay tribute to a player who has become synonymous with the club’s recent successes.
It’ll also be Brendan Rodgers’ first game at Paradise, since returning as manager.
