It was the transfer saga of last summer when the club tried to land one of the top young star’s in the SPFL David Turnbull.

Between negotiating with Motherwell then David deciding to head down south to Norwich during Celtic’s interest – it was all a bit mad. Celtic even released a twitter only statement saying they had offered David a deal that looked to have been turned down. Such was the circus around the signing, the club felt compelled to break their usual rules of talking about players who aren’t on their books.

Turnbull had a change of heart while being shown about Norwich and after the deal looked dead for a second time, the player was then pictured with a Celtic top on next to Neil Lennon at Celtic Park.

Deal done? Nope. A medical would flag up a major issue with David’s knee which meant the deal couldn’t be completed. The midfielder had to go in for surgery and has missed most of last season.

With Celtic now in the market to firm up their ten in a row squad, will they now go back for the player they were once so keen on?

The club even tried to get David on-loan after they heard about his injury so they could oversee his progress and get him the best medical care and rehab. Motherwell declined because there were no guarantees about Celtic paying the permanent fee this summer.

With David fit again, it’s a big question. Has Neil Lennon moved on or will he make a move for last summer’s transfer target?
