Celtic winger Mikey Johnston appears to have stepped up his injury recovery, as he trained with the first team ahead of Thursday’s Europa League groups stage opener against Real Betis.

Images released on the club’s official website show Johnston training alongside his teammates as he edges closer to a return in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

It has been a very frustrating time for the 22-year old in the last couple of years when it comes to injury issues.

Going into a fresh new era under Postecoglou, many were hoping that Johnston could finally put those injury problems behind him and kick on in the side.

However, in the pre-season friendly fixture, the winger was forced off once again.

Thankfully, his absence hasn’t been as long as previous injuries, and he now looks to be stepping up his recovery and coming closer to a return to action.

During his spells in the side, Johnston has shown what he is capable of, including in some big games against the likes of Rangers and Rennes in the Europa League.

Of course, it has been said before, but fingers crossed we can see him have a consistent run in Postecoglou’s squad and add some much-needed wide options for the 56-year old.
