Tonight Legia Warsaw released a statement saying they are currently under investigation by UEFA for fielding and ineligible player during their tie with Celtic last night.
Bereszynskiego had been suspended last season but wasn’t registered to play against St Pats so he did not serve that bad, then he came on as a late sub against Celtic and there in lies the problem with UEFA.
Celtic have profited in the recent past from a team fielding an ineligible player. FC Sion were famously booted out the Europa League after doing so.
If the same thing were to happen here it would be extremely harsh on the Polish side after easily negotiating their way past Celtic over the 2 legs. A fine would be more than likely.
We await UEFA’s verdict.
