Celtic midfielder Eboue Kouassi has left the club on a permanent basis this afternoon after a deal was struck to keep the player at Genk going forward.

Signed by Brendan Rodgers as a potential replacement for Scott Brown, it’s never really worked out for the central midfielder. A mixture of bad luck and lack of opportunities made it hard to make the breakthrough.

Nobody was going to dislodge Scott Brown over the last four seasons.

His bad ACL injury came when Brown was injured which ended any hope of the player making an impact.

Loaned out to Genk in January, the midfielder only got going when the shut down came into play.

Celtic have clawed some of his fee back and have landed £1.3m in the deal according to RecordSport. Eboue’s fee to come to Celtic was rumoured to be in the region of £3 million.

We wish him all the best in the future.
