Celtic look set to complete the signing of Montreal defender Alistair Johnston ahead of the January window.

It’s now been revealed by RecordSport Celtic will pay £3m for the World Cup star as they look to forge ahead with their January transfer plans.

The Hoops have already secured Yuki Kobayashi on a Free Transfer from Vissel Kobe – the Japanese defender will link up with the team in Portugal at the beginning of December and will have a whole month to train before he can officially be registered in the new year.

Johnston is unlikely to have that much time with the bhoys ahead of the new year registration. The right back is in Qatar with Canada. Although Canada has been eliminated, they still have to play one more game in the competition before they bow out and head home.

There’s likely going to be a bit of time between Canada’s exit and Alistair linking up with his Celtic teammates.

All signs are pointing to this deal being done, but as we’ve found out over the years, until it’s signed, nothing is 100%. We’re confident this one will get over the line.
