Celtic coach Harry Kewell has laughed off talk that he is putting Celtic second after covering a couple of Australia’s games as a commentator at the World Cup.

The former Liverpool and Leeds United star headed back to his homeland with the Hoops as they participated in the Sydney Super Cup against Everton and Sydney FC.

This was extra special for Kewell with the glamour tournament being held in his home city of Sydney with him knowing how important it is for European clubs to visit Australia with it not being one of the most popular sports down under.

After the tournament drew to a close he made the near 16-hour trip to Qatar to cover some of the Socceroos matches at the World Cup for major broadcasters SBS.

He saw his international side take on reigning World champions France and also watched them manage a win against Tunisia in which he provided emotional commentary after the win. It was the Socceroos first victory at the tournament since 2010 and sets up a thrilling end to the group as they take on Denmark in matchday three with them only needing a point to reach the knockout stages.

Kewell won’t be covering the final match as he has headed back to Scotland before heading out to Portugal for Celtic’s winter training camp before they return to domestic action against Aberdeen next month and has dismissed any kind of notion that he is putting Celtic second.

“I’ve been professional my whole life, the opportunity [Postecoglou] has given me, that thought never crossed my mind,” said Harry Kewell as quoted by Football Scotland.
