Mussolini’s granddaughter has called for Celtic fans to be punished and that they committed an act of violence by unfurling a banner of her grandfather hanging before Celtic took on Lazio on Thursday night.

In one of the more bizarre stories you are likely to read on this site, Alessandra Mussolini, a former actress, model and MEP for Forza Italia was deeply unhappy with the banner at Celtic Park.

“Whoever exposes a photo or drawing of my grandfather hanging upside down commits an act of violence, which should be pursued.” She told The Sun.

“I want to propose a new law of the crime of Ducephobia which does not yet exist but which I want to include in our judiciary.”

The banner of the dictator hanging upside down was on a banner with the words ‘follow your leader’ – a banner addressing the fascists in the Lazio support who had earlier in the day walked through Glasgow City Centre chanting and throwing up nazi salutes.

Celts supporters take aim at fascist dictator Mussolini

Mussolini was a facist dictator who founded the party back in 1919 and became Prime minister a few years later.

UEFA themselves haven’t commented on the banners at Celtic Park but would likely do so early next week if they believed them to be offensive or break any of their rules.

Celtic is a club open to all and we abhor the ideologies that come with fascism.
