NEIL LENNON has provided a detailed insight into how they managed to pull off bringing in Jeremie Frimpong from Manchester City on deadline day.
The Irishman only found out about Jeremie a few months back when Manchester City brought a development side to Lennoxtown for a bounce game. After seeing the right-back in the flesh Neil Lennon alongside Damien Duff and John Kennedy looked at the player and were impressed.
Neil went straight to Nicky Hammond to put his name forward for a potential right back candidate and Nicky had already heard of the youngster.
Speaking to CelticTV – Neil Lennon detailed how much work and how many people were involved in the deal.
“It was only two or three months ago when Man City brought a development team up to play our development team, Jeremie was playing in the game. I was very impressed with what I saw. I spoke to Damien about him and John looked at the analysis and we were obviously impressed.
“We had Nick in the building – we were looking for a right back, we threw it to Nick and he had heard good things and seen him.
“All of a sudden an opportunity came up to do the deal. Peter was right at the forefront of the deal because Jerry would come under the bracket of emerging talent which is really important for the club.
“So at 19, the money we’ve paid for him we have an outstanding talent on our hands and what you see on the pitch is what you see away from the pitch. This little energetic buzz bomb – he’s really proud to be there.
“His training levels before the Ross County game were outstanding, it made it impossible for me to leave him out the game.
“We hope he will go onto be the player we think he can be.”
Jeremy hadn’t played any professional first team games before he joined Celtic in September. Just over am month in and the player has got two games under his belt and impressed the supporters.
Neil Lennon is correct when he describes the player as infectious and energetic. Ross County couldn’t handle the 19-year-old in the second half of Saturday’s game.
If this is him after two professional games we certainly could have a player on our hands.
