The rumours have persisted for weeks but journalist Scott Burns of RecordSport has confirmed Celtic are indeed interested in both Ko Itakura and Cameron Carter Vickers, but on a loan deal.
Both central defenders are expected leave their respective clubs this summer and Celtic have been touted as a possible destination.
Burns brought up the pair when discussing another central defender, Ben Davies. The Liverpool defender was on the brink of signing a deal with Celtic until Liverpool came in at the buzzer and signed the defender for reasons unknown to everyone – even people at Liverpool
Davies has never played a competitive game for the Reds and RecordSport say Liverpool don’t want Davies to club come the end of the window. It’s sparked rumours Celtic could go back in for the former Preston man but that has been rubbished in the report claiming Davis wants to stay at Anfield
Burns writes – “Davies was amongst a list of loan central defenders that Celtic are looking at, including Cameron Carter Vickers of Tottenham and Manchester City’s Ko Itakura.”
Celtic have brought in Carl Starfelt but we’re still in desperate need of defensive reinforcement. Jullien is due back in October but if either he and Starfelt get injured, the club will be very short.
