Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers admitted that his team did not deserve to win following their uninspiring draw against St. Johnstone.

Rodgers was forthright in highlighting the team’s shortcomings, particularly emphasising the lack of tempo as a key factor in the draw. Liam Scales was the main frustration with fans when it came to the lack of tempo, the defender just couldn’t help but slow the game down at every possible moment.

He suggested that a faster, more fluid style of play could have been instrumental in breaking down St. Johnstone’s defence, a point that resonates with the team’s recent lacklustre performances.

Rodgers also pointed out that while Celtic had opportunities and managed to get into promising positions on the field, they lacked the “imagination and quality to penetrate” the opposition’s defense. This failing was evident as the team could not convert their chances into goals, marking their second consecutive game without a score. Acknowledging that “St Johnstone deserved something from the game,” Rodgers also hinted at ongoing efforts to address the team’s evident shortcomings.

He said to BBC Scotland: “No, we didn’t deserve the win. There was enough effort from the players and the goalkeeper makes a couple of really good saves but overall we didn’t play with the tempo that we would want to, or have that little bit of craft you need to break down a team that is low.

“St Johnstone deserved something from the game. For us, we lacked a number of things we needed to win the game.

“There’s a number of things we’re working on. But certainly, the tempo of the game was too slow. We had chances, we arrived in good places on the field but we had to show more imagination and quality to penetrate – sadly we weren’t able to do that.”
