Brendan Rodgers, hinted during a pre-match interview with the BBC that Carl Starfelt, the club’s Swedish centre-back, may be parting ways with the Scottish champions.

Rodgers revealed this is the reason behind the Swede being benched for the club’s league opener against Ross County.

Starfelt, now 28, is speculated to be seeking the biggest deal of his career, something that could provide a substantial challenge for Celtic to match. The bhoys have lost Jota and Aaron Mooy from last season’s treble winning side, Carl could be the third.

Since signing with the club two seasons ago under former coach Ange Postecoglou, Starfelt has proven to be a defensive powerhouse, significantly contributing to the team’s victory winning five different trophies. His impending departure could be a massive blow for the Bhoys.

Celtic has already been proactive in preparing for Starfelt’s potential exit. The club secured the signing of the promising defender, Nawrocki, earlier this summer. Nawrocki started the Ross County match in the Swede’s place.
