Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has remained tight-lipped on the club’s reported interest in Southampton defender Lyanco.
The Scottish Premiership champions desperately need reinforcements in central defence, given that players like Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki are expected to be sidelines until November, and Stephen Welsh is out for four months post-surgery.
The links to the Brazilian defender, who played 30 times in the Premier League last season, were established on Friday night.
Lyanco has found himself further down Southampton’s pecking order, especially after the arrival of Mason Holgate on loan from Everton was confirmed.
This shift was emphasised when he was not named in Southampton’s recent 2-1 win against QPR, fueling speculation about an imminent transfer.
When questioned about Celtic’s interest in both Lyanco, Rodgers remained cautious but acknowledged that work is ongoing. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “We are obviously working and hopefully over the next few days we can update on that. But, nothing to confirm at the minute.”

The clock is ticking as the transfer window is set to close soon. If Rodgers can secure defensive reinforcements, it could go a long way in easing the concerns at the club.
