Scotland is set to host arch-rivals England in a friendly match on Tuesday night, promising an electric atmosphere even without competitive stakes.
In their last meeting, the Scots seemed on the cusp of victory, courtesy of Leigh Griffiths’ two spectacular free-kicks. However, a late English goal ensured the spoils were shared.
Joe Hart, who would later go on to don the Celtic jersey, was the English goalie on that day. Fast forward to Celtic’s dressing room, and Leigh Griffiths, in the twilight of his Parkhead career, was present when Hart signed on a 3-year deal for the club. This presented a prime opportunity for some good-natured ribbing.
Callum McGregor, speaking to The Herald ahead of the impending friendly, recalled the instant Griffiths decided to remind Hart of that day:
“The minute Griff saw him that was it, from day one,” McGregor told The Herald.
“Obviously, it was all a bit of a joke and there was banter thrown Joe’s way. Joe’s still adamant it was too far in the corner for him, so we’ll let him off with that one.”
There is one thing for sure, Griffiths wasn’t a stranger to a bit of dressing-room banter, and I’m sure Joe Hart would’ve taken it well
