Celtic stuttered upon their return to action from the international break on Saturday afternoon. A 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell was a cause for concern, although results the following day ensured the Hoops’ lead at the top of the table was maintained.

Post-match against the Steelmen, however, many assumed the Celts’ advantage was going to be slashed, leading to talk of a title race. Cameron Carter-Vickers insisted it had been on from the start. He said (Daily Record): “The title race has always been on, it’s never over in November.

“Definitely not. It’s late November and there is over half a season to be played. I don’t think you can ever say, whether you were ten or 12 points clear – or eight as we are now – that we were safe.”

The Celtic players know how quickly things can turn, and that they have to stay consistent and not get too far ahead of themselves. Carter-Vickers would be wrong if he said the league is over now.

The American internationalist claimed that his view is the correct one, and it is the way the Bhoys have looked at things since he’s been at the club. He said: “That’s the way we look at it and the way we have looked at it the last couple of seasons. I think it’s the only way to look at it like I said before, it’s healthy.”

One can never look too far into the future in football. Particularly in Scotland, things can turn in the blink of an eye, the weekend just past putting utmost testament to this.
