CELTIC are one game away from European Football after Christmas. The primary objective set by Brendan Rodgers and his backroom team at the start of the season is within reach.

While some fans want to pontificate over tonight’s drubbing at the hands of a team who have more star power than Hollywood blockbuster, we want to focus on the positives.

With Bayern sneaking a 2-1 win against Anderlecht this evening that puts Celtic three points ahead of Anderlecht and still to play the Belgian side at Celtic Park.

That means it goes down to head to head. As it stands Celtic would have to be beaten 4-0 on the night at Celtic Park not to finish third in the group.

Having beat Anderlecht 3-0 at their own ground, it goes down to head to head and if Anderlecht doesn’t better that result, Celtic will go through to the Europa.

We should not take third for granted but we have one foot in the door and that’s important.

Heavy defeats always understandably evoke extreme emotions from people criticising and then people defending the team. It’s vital balanced perspective is gained, the mission was simple – Europe after Christmas, we’re nearly there!
