Over the summer, there has been a lot of interest in Hearts fullback, Aaron Hickey from all over the globe.

He has reportedly visited a few training grounds including German giants, Bayern Munich. So it is clear to see clubs were desperate to get their hands on Hickey and convince him to join.

It appears that a deal is now set to be completed with Italian side Bologna winning the race for the signature of the 18-year old.

At one point in the window, it was also reported that Celtic were close to signing the Hearts player, but clearly this deal seems to be done so there’s no chance of that. It doesn’t mean that the Hoops still don’t have any involvement in the deal.

Before his move back to Hearts, Hickey was part of the Celtic Youth Academy. Before he did exit, the executives at the Scottish Champions very clever enough to include a 30% sell-on fee, that they must be paid if he was ever to move on.

As reported by Edinburgh Live, the Italian side are set to complete the one-year loan deal, with the obligation to buy next season for £1.78 million.

This means that Celtic will be receiving around £535,000 from the deal.

Even though Neil Lennon’s side might be missing out on a deal for a talented young Scottish talent, I’m sure the Celtic board will still be delighted at the fact they will be getting the large chunk of the fee in this deal, for a player who isn’t even at the club.
