Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has delivered a scathing opinion on Ryan Christie for leaving Celtic this summer.

Ryan left on the final day of the window to join Bournemouth when it was clear to the club the midfielder wasn’t going to sign a new deal.

Since then, a lot of people have had their say on whether it was the best career decision to join the Championship club.

Simon Jordan believes Ryan has taken an easy ‘soft’ move to Bournemouth where the pressure is off but the pay is high when the more difficult and better football challenge was still there for him in Glasgow.

Jordan told talkSPORT: “I think he has taken the soft option.

“Bournemouth are a very nice option, it’s probably a very decent salary because they have a Russian owner who is still enjoying the second year of Premier League parachute payments.

“I think it is a lovely place to live, he will probably get more money playing for Bournemouth than for Celtic.

“But certainly it is not a footballing decision of advancing oneself.

“If you were going to advance yourself you should be playing for an established Premier League side, which is Burnley.

“Leaving Celtic, who are no doubt a far bigger footballing force than Bournemouth, who have a massive task on their hands with a new manager and a new Rangers who are being re-infused by the finances and Steven Gerrard winning the league, is a hell of a challenge.

“If he wanted a real challenge then winning that title back rather than maybe getting out of the Championship, for me, is a bigger footballing decision.”

Ryan has always wanted to play in the Premier League but he decided on a move to Bournemouth after Burnley had made a play for his services.

Christie always wanted to head down south during his career and has jumped at the first opportunity. A career and personal decision for a new type of challenge is fair enough but it certainly isn’t a bigger stage for the midfielder.

Can Ryan be a success down south? Time will tell.
