Kris Boyd Meltdown Sparks Hilarious Neil Lennon Moment

Kris Boyd’s reaction to Celtic’s equaliser against Rangers ended up creating one of the funniest moments of Sky Sports’ post-match coverage on Sunday afternoon.

As Celtic turned the game around at Celtic Park, Boyd launched into a passionate breakdown of Rangers defending after Yang Hyun-jun made it 1-1 in the Glasgow Derby. Sitting beside him in the studio, Neil Lennon could barely contain himself as the rant gathered pace.

The goal itself was a really good move from Celtic. Luke McCowan drifted inside from the right before threading a clever pass through for Arne Engels. The Belgian then squared the ball across the box where Yang finished calmly beyond Jack Butland.

Rangers had started the game brightly and punished Celtic early through Mikey Moore, but they struggled badly once Celtic settled into the match. McCowan’s movement caused problems between the lines and Rangers never looked fully comfortable when Celtic switched play quickly into wide areas.

Boyd focused entirely on the defending.

As he started picking apart each Rangers player involved in the move, Lennon simply burst out laughing beside him in the studio. The former Celtic manager did not need to say much. His reaction alone told the story.

The longer Boyd spoke, the funnier the moment became.

Boyd has never hidden his frustration when Rangers defend poorly against Celtic, and this was another example of that. The issue for Rangers was not one single mistake either. Celtic moved the ball too quickly and Rangers failed to react once McCowan found space centrally.

Lennon had seen enough.

Boyd gave his detailed breakdown of the goal during Sky Sports coverage after the match.

He said: “There are so many things wrong with that goal from a Rangers point of view.

“When you look at it, I mean, for me, Romans has got to get tighter.

“You know that Luke McCowan’s coming in there. You can see there, he’s already backing off. Just go.

“You know you can go there. You can afford to put numbers there. Rangers are playing with two sixes.

“Chukwani and Conor Barron have dropped back in. Fernandez doesn’t talk to Chukwani to go with the runner because he’s not going to do it because it’s laziness. Then all of a sudden, when he goes, I’ll just stick out a leg and hopefully it hits off it.

“Rangers are sprinting back into the area. Get back in there and then the game’s in front of you. Look at Antman trying to get back in there as well.

The contrast between both pundits made the clip spread quickly online after full-time.

Boyd was deep into tactical detail. Lennon was trying not to laugh at him.

Celtic supporters probably enjoyed both parts equally after watching their side produce one of their best derby second-half displays of the season.
