It was back in July CeltsAreHere told their readers the club had signed West Ham defender Justin Osagie.

The image of the youngster holding up his Celtic shirt and number made it onto social media back in the summer. We awaited Celtic’s official announcement that never came until the middle of September.

In that time, Osagie hasn’t been part of any Celtic youth games or Lowland league ties. There had to be some sort of paper work hold up for Celtic to hold off officially announcing the deal to supporters.

Osagie signed for the Hammers back in 2020 from Southend before being picked up by Celtic scouts to help improve the B team. Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus have found the going tough in their European matchless beaten by Real Madrid youth and Shakhtar in consecutive weeks.

Celtic need to bring more players through the ranks, to do that, they need to identify and develop top young players before the clubs with more financial clout start sniffing around. It’s been a while since we had an academy star make the leap. It’s something that has to be improved upon.

The 17-year-old will be looking to make an impact in the lowland league in the short term and catch the eye of Ange Postecoglou over the course of the next two seasons.
