Former Celtic Midfielder Shaun Maloney spoke this week of his heartache at missing out on another major tournament with Scotland.

The 32-year-old was in a despondent mood as he spoke to the media. He knows that this was his last chance to get to a major tournament with his country, and they blew it.

Speaking to the press he equivalised the disappointment to Celtic losing the last day of the season and being relegated from the Premiership but went one further:

“I’d probably say it was the worst. I’ve lost leagues on the final day, I’ve been
relegated as part of a team but for an actual individual moment and a goal, you are sort of lying there in the back of the net.

“It was heartbreaking. It felt as if the world went into slow motion when that ball hit the post.”

While Scotland not qualifying was a disappointment we can’t seem to put it up there with last day league disappointment.

Sorry Shaun!
