Celtic missed out on Ben Davies at the end of the transfer window after one of the most bizarre scenarios culminated in a side who had no interest in him 48 hours before a deal suddenly came to the table.

It was Liverpool, inexplicably coming in at the last minute and scuppering a deal between Davies and Celtic which was verbally agreed.

As soon as Davies and his agent caught wind of the deal and double checked they weren’t the victim of an elaborate prank, they headed to Anfield and Celtic were put in their rear view mirror.

Since the move, Davies is yet to play a single minute for his new club. It’s promoted renewed optimism Celtic might land their man in the summer like previously thought.

Celtic had no intention of buying Davies out early from his deal, so the defender would have seen out the season at Preston before heading North.

Some think that deal could be resurrected because Juergen Klopp has seen no use for Ben.

However, the Liverpool boss may have scuppered those thoughts as he explains why Davies hasn’t played. It appears as if there’s still a chance for Davies at Anfield:

“Ben Davies had a test to adapt, it was always clear – a lot of players came here to Liverpool and the most famous story is maybe Andy Robertson.” Klopp told the Liverpool Echo.

“It took him half a year in a normal season to settle in.

“Ben is a really good player but he has to get used to all the stuff here as well.

“What we have now is options and hopefully it will stay like this.”
