Celtic haven’t wasted time in identifying a replacement for Chris Jullien, who is closing in on a deal that will see him join Schalke on loan, with a possible permanent clause attached.

The Parkhead club are reportedly in talks with Schalke defender Malick Thiaw. The defender is extremely highly rated and is just 21-years old. [Record Sport]

The player played 32 games last season and was Ko Itakura’s defensive partner.

The player is expected to leave the German side this summer, with Jullien seen as a suitable replacement for him.

Celtic Could Pull Off an Impressive Move

The German youth international was linked to AC Milan in January, and Liverpool is said to admire the player.

Thiaw, who was a star in the second tier of German football last season, looks to be a real coup for Celtic if they can pull it off.

It would be a statement signing from Ange Postecoglou as he gears up for Champions League football.

It’s an exciting link, but the fee may prove to be a stumbling block, although, there is no clear indication as to what Schalke’s asking price is.
