FORMER Feyenoord and Blackburn star, Brett Emerton has bemoaned Daniel Arzani’s move to Celtic.

The Socceroos Legend made the revelation speaking to Goal.com that Arzani would have been better served taking a similar route to him in his playing days.

Arzani moved to Feyenoord from Australia before getting his move to the English Premier League due to work permit problems.

Speaking about the player, Emerton is convinced a Dutch move would have been the right call.

“I think for his development it would’ve been a better move if I’m honest.

“But that’s not to say he can’t go to Celtic, spend one or two seasons performing well and get a big move from there.

“I went to Feyenoord and my ideal goal was to end up playing in the Premier League.

“I wasn’t able to go straight there due to work permit reasons so I used Holland as a stepping stone for my career and think it worked out perfectly well.”

Arzani moved to Celtic from Manchester City on-loan after completing a move from Melbourne City in the summer.

In a move which looks similar to the way City brought in Aaron Mooy, there is an opportunity for Arzani to stay on full time at Celtic after his initial loan deal.

The midfielder got his first goal for the club earlier this week when the 19-year-old bagged a fantastic free kick for the Celtic reserve side.

Time will tell if Arzani can develop at Celtic, but the presumption he would be better served elsewhere by Emerton smacks of narrowminded nonsense.
