With the new league season just three weeks away and seven weeks remaining in the transfer window, Celtic’s resolve is being put to the test. The exit of Jota, coupled with injuries to key players Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers, has left the squad in a precarious position.

New Sky Sports pundit Chris Sutton has voiced his concerns about the current state of the squad in his latest RecordSport column. He believes that despite receiving substantial funds received from Jota’s sale, the squad is now weaker than it was at the close of last season.

Sutton believes Jota’s departure is a significant blow to the squad. His unique skill set and ability to change the course of a game will be sorely missed. He was a player for the big occasions, often making the difference in major matches against Rangers and in cup semi-finals and finals. Replacing such a player will be a daunting task for Brendan Rodgers.

Despite these challenges, Rodgers has made some astute moves. He has secured long-term contracts for key players like Kyogo and Daizen Maeda, providing an extra layer of insurance against other interested clubs. This is also a reward for their performances, a sentiment that also applies to Callum McGregor.

However, the question remains: who will be signed to bolster the squad’s strength? The injuries to Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston have exposed the squad’s lack of cover in defence. Rodgers may need to look at right back in the short term, despite having Tony Ralston, who performed well under former manager Ange Postecoglou.

Rodgers has demonstrated his ability to develop and improve players, but recruitment is also a big part of the job. With the new league season fast approaching, Celtic fans will be eagerly watching to see how the squad evolves.

  1. Celtics suits can’t help if someone with wider pockets than they, press the button that states ‘Press Green and White logo for maximum release price’ and with Jota they did.

I sure Jota did, the suits are rejoicin and fillin their bulgin pockets with money, and less handkerchiefs.

For the true fan to cry on, Celtic ARE A SELLIN CLUB. Make no bones about it, it has served them in the past and even the future by doing so.

As long as the players are in demand at Paradise, they may be eye’d elsewhere.
