KYOGO FURUHASHI has caused a stir back in Japan – well his manager has by not starting the Hoops hero in their defeat to Saudi Arabia.

Kyogo was on the bench for his international side and when he finally came on – he was played as a winger.

The Japanese star has taken Celtic by storm and has a knack for scoring when played upfront. His previous SPFL game before the Aberdeen win was at Ibrox where Ange played the striker out on the left to accommodate the outgoing Odsonne Edouard.

The result was a narrow loss for the hoops with Kyogo unable to affect the game from the left. He did set up Eddy for an easy goal but the Frenchman fluffed it.

There’s no doubting Kyogo is best as a striker

Former Japan international Masakiyo Maezono was enraged by the Kyogo snub and didn’t mince his words:

He said: “Why did we not start Kyogo Furuhashi? He’s fit enough to start for Celtic so he should be fit enough for us.

“It was bad enough not playing him, but then when he did come on, he was stuck on the left wing and was unable to have any influence on the game.

“His manager at Celtic, Ange Postecoglou, has got the best out of him by playing him as a striker and he has scored a lot of goals.

“It makes no sense to not play him in a position where he scores goals.

“The manager needs to start using players in their correct position or else we have no chance of qualifying for the World Cup.” quotes from SunSport.

Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu will be under pressure to play Kyogo up front from the start against Australia next week. The Japanese striker could come up against his Celtic teammate Tom Rogic on the night,
