Celtic defeated Ross County by four goals to two on Flag Day. Strikes from David Turnbull, Kyogo and Matt O’Riley helped Brendan Rodgers’ side to victory in a comfortable opening day win.

The visitors started the better side but the Hoops grew into it as it went on came away worthy victors. Here are three things we learned from the match.

David Turnbull Could Be Rejuvenated Under Rodgers

Many were left impressed by David Turnbull’s cameo against Athletic Club midweek. The Scotland international was awarded a start this afternoon as a result of it and took his chance.

In the opening stages, he took responsibility convincingly scoring from the spot. He then bagged his second and the champions’ third of the afternoon just before halftime, tapping in at the back post.

A year left on his deal, Rodgers needs to make a decision on whether to sell Turnbull this window or reward him with a new deal. At the moment, it looks as though the 24-year-old could more than contribute this season – at least going by his opening-day display.

Maik Nawrocki Is Here To Contribute

Centre back Maik Nawrocki was handed his competitive Celtic debut today. Brendan Rodgers starting the 22-year-old on opening day is a statement of intent that the Pole is here to contribute immediately to the first team.

Nawrocki didn’t look out of place at the heart of the Hoops’ defence. He strode out from the back several times and pinged a good few passes about. He was hooked on 67 minutes for Carl Starfelt but it looks like the Swede will have a fight on his hands with Nawrocki a worthy competitor.

Slight Vulnerability At The Back

At the back today, Celtic weren’t the most convincing. Conceding two goals at home is never great.

Anthony Ralston had a few shaky instances, as did his ‘keeper, Joe Hart. Many believe the Englishman needs to be replaced between the sticks. His miscommunication with Ralston and resultant error may only add to those calling for a new number one.

Despite this, the positives outweigh the negatives of Celtic’s display this afternoon. A win was all that mattered on Flag Day and that is what the Bhoys achieved.

There was plenty to take from Brendan Rodgers’ maiden competitive match back at the helm. Lessons will be learned ahead of an arduous trip to Aberdeen next Sunday.
