Celtic defeated Ross County by four goals to two on Flag Day. Some were surprised to see Carl Starfelt benched with Maik Nawrocki starting ahead of him.

Now after the match, Hoops’ gaffer Brendan Rodgers has confirmed the Swede could be on his way out of the club. The Irishman said (Sky Sports): “Carl could leave and that’s the reason for not starting him. That’s something that could go through next week but we’ll see.”

It appears the centre half’s days in Glasgow are numbered. He built up a terrific partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers at Parkhead but that looks set to break up.

Although his departure will be disappointing, Rodgers praised the 28-year-old for what he has done at the club: “He’s been a fantastic servant, but there are reasons why he might want to move on”

It remains to be seen whether or not Celtic will dip their toe in the market for another centre back now as a result of this news. One would imagine they will.
