Mechelen boss Wouter Vrancke has been singing the praises of Celtic loan player Marian Shved, months after he called the player out for acting like he was above the club.

Shved’s Mechelen career looked to be going the same way as his time at Celtic when the manager said he had enough of the winger’s attitude.

Since then, Shved has put his head down and worked very hard to show he was worth a second chance at the club.

He’s taken the chance very well and grabbed two goals and an assist in a 3-2 during the week for his loan side.

Wouter Vrancke has gone from writing the midfielder off to hoping to get the Marian on a permanent deal.

“It’s as if the real Marian Shved has suddenly turned up and it’s a completely different person from the one that joined us from Celtic at the start.” Wouter told RecordSport.

“Maybe he needed that wake-up call and be put in his place. Whatever it was, it’s worked and his behaviour is now exemplary on and off the pitch.

“If he is playing like that and we can keep him after speaking to Celtic then that would be great.

“When he first came here, he acted like he didn’t belong here. He isolated himself and never laughed. Now he engages with everyone and is popular. He’s one of the boys now.

“Anyone who has played sport at this level knows how important teamwork is. He’s naturally an introverted boy. That’s no problem, as long as he throws himself into the group and he’s done that and you can see he is happy now.

“Everyone here would be delighted if he stayed here for good.”

Celtic are going to go through a reboot in the summer and there’s a chance Marian could come back to the club and make an impact.

Right now, nothing can be off the table but Celtic look like they have an interested buyer for the player if they don’t want to keep him past the summer.

The bhoys have struggled this season and ironically we have suffered from not having width on the right with James Forrest being out injured for most of the season.
