Reports today claim Ryan Christie’s Celtic deal will run out in December rather than next summer.

The Daily Record report the Hoops midfielder will be able to talk to any clubs come the summer when he enters the final six months of his deal.

If this is true, then the club have made a massive error of judgement.

I know a lot of Celtic fans aren’t high on the Celtic star at present but he still holds a decent amount of value as a transfer asset with a year left on his deal.

However, if it’s just six months then the club stand to miss out on a transfer fee of £6m plus for the former Inverness Caley player.

Given Christie will most certainly be going to the Euros, his transfer price and visibility could grow if he gets among the goals for Scotland.

If the club have been so dense to not sign Christie on a three-year deal, plus the remainder of the season when he signed the deal, then I despair.

The midfielder, like many of his teammates, has struggled this season. We all know Ryan fancies a move away to the English Premier League. If the player goes for nothing after Christmas, it just sums us up at the minute.

Transfer Markt have the players deal ending in May 2022, let’s hope some wires have been crossed if that’s the case. Given the transfer site has Christie’s current valuation at £8m, it would be hard pill to swallow if he went on a free.
