Celtic have reportedly failed in a bid to sign young attacking player, Veron Parkes after his exit from Premier League side West Ham United.

According to Football Insider, the club were one of many teams across Europe trying to sign Parkes but instead he has joined Dutch side Fortuna Sittard.

The 18-year old was first linked to the club back in June. It was thought that the striker had been offered a contract by the hoops but he was more attracted in a move to Holland due there being a more realistic path to first-team football.

Parkes was first attracted by the interested after seeing the success of the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, who broke into the Celtic first-team at such a young age and believed he may have the potential to do so.

The Bhoys would have been able to pick up the striker, who scored 13 goals and provided six assists in 19 games for the youth team and trained with the Hammers first team on several occasions, for a fee in the region of £300,000.

Unfortunately, the move hasn’t come to fruition but it is fair to say the club have an abundance of talent in the position anyhow.
