Incoming Celtic signing Andrew Gutman has been in demand for quite a while. Not only did a certain Ibrox club want the player but it was today confirmed he was actually offered a deal by American side Chicago Fire.

While the deal seems like it’s done, the club has yet to confirm Gutman’s transfer to Celtic. This could be down to needing international clearance before it can be completely done.

Gutman was on trial at Ibrox and the award winning College footballer was offered an MLS deal earlier this month as Chicago Fire tried to keep him in the US.

However, Chicago’s general manager Nelson Rodriguez told RecordSport, their attempt to get Andrew signed were in vain because the player has his heart set on a move to Celtic.

He said: “Andrew was offered a contract, but chose not to accept it.

“Instead he decided to go with the offer from Celtic so good luck to him.”

Gutman would be Celtic’s second American signing of the window and presents a massive shift in Celtic’s scouting range. There is talk Manny Perez (another American defender) will join the club also as Brendan Rodgers casts his net across the pond.
