Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has expressed surprise over Rangers’ unexpected defeat to Ross County this past weekend, a result that has shaken up the Scottish Premiership title race.

The 3-2 loss in the Highlands has put Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic in a favourable position, leading the table by four points, although Rangers still hold a game in hand against Dundee. But it does mean that Celtic will definitely lead the way heading into the split, and means that Rangers must come to Celtic Park and win.

This pivotal game could very well decide the championship, a scenario Sutton believes lends an advantage to Celtic. However, he cautioned against complacency in remarks made on the Daily Mail’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast.

“Basically, nobody saw that coming. Least of all Philippe Clement. With the way they finished against Celtic I was astonished by the real lack of intensity from their performance, especially after a first half where they were so insipid.

“They go in front and you think they are not going to let this go, but Ross County came out and got a couple of goals. They carried a real threat to Rangers and they go 3-1 ahead. That is a bad, bad day for Rangers.

“It is so tight and it’s still in their hands, but they have to go away to Celtic Park and probably win.

“I still think there will be a couple of twists and turns but I think they will have to beat Celtic at Celtic Park.”

Rangers’ first-ever defeat to Ross County seems to be a turning point in this title race. With five games left for Celtic, six for Rangers, it’s set to be an exciting end to the season.

  1. Only really means that we can now afford a draw against the scum now at home?
We beat the shower of filth and the title will be as good as wrapped up imo?
No doubt they are trying to currently trying to work out the best set of fixtures to suit the scum, and there cheerleaders within sky at present?
Will possibly do everything possible to make sure the scum get the right result on Wednesday to prolong this title race for as long as possible also imo?

  2. Remember hearts and Kilmarnock? That’s right we still have to play them, and they have gave us a hard time this season, all be it with poor refereeing, but they will try it again.
