Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has responded to Celtic’s 2-0 defeat to Hearts.

With Celtic missing a penalty, having Yang Hyun-Jun sent off, and conceding a penalty, it was a controversial day for referee Don Robertson.

Sutton was critical of Robertson’s decisions after the game but praised Hearts’ performance in the win, with the Englishman deeming Iwata’s handball the wrong decision.

Sutton said (X), “Funny old title race over the weekend. Well done to Hearts👏👏Yang red card I really don’t like but understand why it was given. Iwata handball is so harsh but would have been awarded because of the position of his arm but he was nudged but can’t say it’s a surprise in Scotland…”

Sutton’s comments are spot on; Yang’s red card and the Hearts penalty decision were at best controversial decisions and at worst the wrong decisions.

With VAR in place, there are simply no excuses for Celtic ultimately dropping three points due to poor refereeing and VAR decisions.

Refereeing decisions ultimately changed the course of the game, with a red card and penalty against Celtic hard to come back from.

Adam Idah will also look back on his performance this afternoon with disappointment after his penalty miss down the middle of the goal in the 13th minute, which Hearts goalkeeper Zander Clark saved.
