When thinking of the goals he scored for Celtic, the first that comes to mind is the one in the League Cup final, where Celtic had their backs to the wall with a man down. However, the goal he scored that night wasn’t his favourite, instead, the thunderous header against Lazio was.

Neil Lennon’s Celtic defeated that Italian side 2-1 at home in the Europa League group stages, before repeating the result in Rome.

With Celtic set to face the side again, but this time in the Champions League, on Wednesday, fans would happily take another 2-1 win.

Reflecting on the goal he scored, the French defender said that the unforgettable echo of the cheering crowd still lingers in his mind. [RecordSport]

“When I get asked about the Lazio game, it just gives me goosebumps again.

“They were a very good team and even though it was the Europa League, that match-up felt like it was on the big stage. The atmosphere was just incredible. We didn’t expect to go behind in the game but we came back to win.

“That night, you saw the energy and power of the Celtic team at that time. To score the goal at the end just topped everything off for me. And oh my God, that feeling – it was just nuts.

“When I scored, the noise in the stadium was unbelievable. I still remember my celebration, it was something else. I’ve never felt anything like that before in my career.

“People ask me to compare that moment with the goal against Rangers at Hampden. Now, of course, the Rangers goal was special because it was a cup final. But when I scored, I didn’t know how important it would be at the time. There was so much time still left to play.

“Against Lazio, we were almost in injury time so it felt different. The stadium caught fire. It’s one of the best feelings I’ve ever had in football.

“It was my first ever goal at Celtic Park and I was so proud of our team that night. That win showed the spirit and togetherness we had at that time. It was a crazy night.

“That first year I was at Celtic, the enthusiasm and energy we had – it was such a good team. There was a great atmosphere in the dressing-room.

“That was shown in the reaction from everyone when I scored the goal to beat Lazio.”

It’s a different Lazio side visiting Celtic Park this week, but it’s also a different Celtic team. It’s set to be an enthralling encounter.
