HEARTS BOSS Daniel Stendel has told the media he has no intention of trying to sign Craig Gordon on deadline day.

SunSport reported Hearts we’re keen to bring the player back for a sensational return to Tynecastle but it appears Hearts haven’t made a formal approach.

“My feeling is we don’t need a goalkeeper at the moment.” Stendel told SunSport.

“We said we’re looking for offensive players and Joel played well in the last games.

“Craig Gordon has a contract with Celtic. I don’t really know him, but I know he has a history with Hearts.

“He is a really good goalkeeper and an important personality. But at the moment I’m only really looking at the last day and that we get the squad we want for the next games.”

Gordon has not been Celtic’s number one goalkeeper for over a year. He was dropped to the bench by Brendan Rodgers and in the summer, Neil Lennon continued to play Bain until he got injured. Gordon got a few games proceeding Bain’s injury but then Fraser Forster came in and he’s been the main man all season.

At 37, the goalkeeper wants to play football. However, Craig is part of a three man goalkeeping team at Celtic Park and there’s no way Neil Lennon will jeopardise the season by going into the second half of the campaign with only two goalkeepers.

The transfer window closes at midnight and we’ll officially know who is and who is out of the club by then.
