New Celtic defender, Shane Duffy has revealed that he received a message from former Celtic coach, Damien Duff congratulating the big Irishman on grabbing his first goal for the Hoops.

Duff, who was of course one of Neil Lennon’s former right-hand man, clearly still keeps an eye on the progress of the side and was quick to congratulate the new defender on his opening, dream goal for the club

As reported by the Daily Record, Duffy spoke on his delight in scoring the goal and getting a message from the ex Ireland international.

“Damien Duff texted me and said, ‘I know it’s not what you dreamed of, going to Dingwall in front of 300 fans playing for Celtic’.

“But it was still a special moment. It was straight off the sweet spot, I attacked it well. It was obviously a proud moment for me, it was something I’ve always wanted to do and now I’ve done it. I’ll be proud when I look back tonight and reflect on the game, and my mum and that will be proud.

“I’m happy it’s sort of over with now and I can just focus on the rest of the season and concentrate on the games.”

The defender who signed from Brighton last week, sounded delighted at the fact he got to wear the famous Green and White hoops  for the first time and even managed to get that goal, that some struggle to get, never mind on your first appearance.

You can see from his goal yesterday, the sort of threat that Duffy will possess in opposition boxes from set-pieces. He is a massive goal threat and add that to both Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer, it could become a big source of Celtic’s goals.

Many fans cannot wait to see Duffy when he is at full fitness and top of his level, as yesterday was probably just a teaser of that with more to come in the next couple of weeks.
