Monday night’s Scottish Cup opponents Dundee United look to have been handed an injury boost as they prepare to welcome back experienced defender and former Celtic man Charlie Mulgrew.

Heading into this week’s Scottish Cup ties, Ange Postecoglou’s side are looking to secure a third trip to Hampden this campaign, whereas the Tannadice side will be hoping to put the Hoops treble hopes to an end.

It looked like Tam Courts men were set to be without some big hitters due to injury over the last couple of days. However, the United boss delivered some welcome news, from his point of view, as he revealed several stars, including Mulgrew, are in contention for a return.

“Charlie (Mulgrew) and Dylan (Levitt) have both been training, but Tony (Watt) is one we are monitoring,” he said, as quoted by Scottish Daily Express.

“Ryan Edwards is fine; he might have to go in and get his nose seen to in the summer but he’s a centre-half and that comes with the territory.”

Of course, another former Celtic man in Tony Watt could also be available for Monday night, and that would be another big boost for the Tannadice side, having their big January signing available for selection.

When it comes to facing this Celtic side, it has been shown that opposition teams need to be on top of their game and having experienced players such as Mulgrew available could be valuable in a huge quarter-final cup tie.

The last time the two sides faced at Tannadice, the Hoops arguably put one of their best away performances of the campaign. So Postecoglou will be hoping to see the same once again this week, despite United’s welcome injury news.
