Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is sick of the narrative surrounding Rangers that they are invincible and will win every game between now and the end of the season.

The Hoops boss pointed towards the Ibrox club’s unexpected 2-1 home defeat to Motherwell on Saturday as an example of why they are not unbreakable. Despite losing, though, the Gers remained top of the table at the end of the weekend because of events involving Celtic at Tynecastle yesterday.

Hearts ran out 2-0 winners amid a backdrop of controversial refereeing and VAR decisions that were rightly called out by Rodgers post-match.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the manager and his players, but they can’t dwell on it too much, particularly at such a pivotal point in the season.

They need to move on swiftly, but there will be many twists in the tale as of yet, the double-treble-winning boss pointing out Saturday’s events to back up his point: “You would never have said yesterday before Rangers lost to Motherwell at home that they would lose”, he said (Football Scotland).

“Everything I hear is that they are going to win every single game through to the end of the season. But we know it’s about us. It’s still very much in our hands.”

Rodgers knows that if Celtic win all of their games between now and the end of the season, they will be champions. His side seemed to be on an upturn in form going into Sunday’s match but everything that could have gone wrong in Gorgie did.

Two upcoming home games versus both Livingston and St. Johnstone in the cup and league respectively provide the Hoops with an opportunity to get themselves back on track and regain their momentum ahead of April’s key Glasgow derby.
