Ex-Ibrox man Kris Boyd has told SunSport he believes Tom Rogic would be a great player in teams like Man City or Liverpool down south.

The comments come as Celtic are locked in talks over Tom’s availability for next weekend’s Glasgow Derby.

The midfielder is supposed to fly out to Dubai after the Boxing Day game against Aberdeen, but Brendan Rodgers is hoping the Socceroos see sense and admitted Tom is desperate to play at Ibrox.

With everyone giving their opinion on the Wizard of Oz and his potential influence – Boyd is adamant Rogic could mix it with the top EPL stars, and that’s the reason why Rodgers is trying desperately to make sure he plays in the derby.

“Could he play in the English Premier League?” Boyd told Sunsport.

“I think he could easily go to teams like Manchester City or Liverpool, although that’s not going to happen . . .

“Rogic would be great in sides which dominate possession — the same way Celts do in Scotland.”

Celtic have Dundee on Saturday followed by Aberdeen on boxing day before the derby game on December 29th.

With the player due to fly out to Dubai, it would be ridiculous not to let him play and join up with his country a little bit later. The Asia Cup doesn’t start until January 5th and the Socceroos first match is not until January 6th – this would give Rogic a whole week in the Australian training camp before kick off.
