It has been confirmed that former Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths will return to Mandurah City on a one-year deal [Football Scotland].

He joined the Australian minnows last season to sample life down under and likely put himself in the shop window but it just never worked out.

Griffiths then returned back to Scotland where he trained with Livingston but was told that David Martindale couldn’t offer him a contract.

The former Celtic striker will now play for the semi-professional club in the third tier of Australian football which is a major fall from grace considering the level he was at.

His friend John Baird is in charge of Mandurah and will be delighted to bring him in as he made an impact during his short stay at the club.

During his time at Celtic, Griffiths joined a unique group of men to have scored over 100 goals for the club having netted 123 goals in 261 appearances.

Griffiths’ last meaningful contribution was to score in the Scottish Cup final against Hearts to help the Hoops make history by winning a Quadruple Treble.

Issues with the forward had already been a huge problem that season as he was left out of the squad to travel to France during pre-season.

At 32-years-old, he should still have plenty years left in him but this move really says it all about the former Scotland international.
