Every day now, we hear of players moving to the Middle East and particularly Saudi Arabia. Celtic fans experienced this first hand with the departure of Jota to Al-Ittihad. Along with the Portuguese, a number of former Celts are making the switch to Saudi Arabia.

The latest in the long line is Jason Denayer. On loan at Celtic for the 2014/15 season, the Belgian defender struck up a congenial partnership with Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of the Hoops’ backline. Many a fan wanted Denayer in on a permanent basis but nothing ever materialised.

Eventually, the centre back moved on and now, has joined Al-Fateh in the Saudi top flight. What is interesting about this move is that the 28-year-old has not made the move from Europe, but from UAE where he has been plying his trade for the past year with Shabab Al-Ahli.

Denayer made just 11 appearances for the club and is now onto pastures new elsewhere in the Middle East. It is certain he will be getting paid amounts of money the average person can only dream of which will set him and his family up for life.
