Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has been full of praise for Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou after the magnificent job he has done at the Hoops since his arrival last summer.

There were many critics of the former Socceroos boss before he even took charge of a match but he has most definitely shut all those pundits up.

Thomson has had a taste of managerial experience himself having led Kelty Hearts to promotion by winning the title in League Two last season.

He latterly resigned from that position at the end of the season and has been out of the game ever since with his name being linked with the job at Ibrox after the departure of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Celtic have been utterly relentless in the league since Ange’s arrival and have only lost once in their previous 47 games which is remarkable for a side that couldn’t buy a win from home last year between February and early October.

That’s been something that Thomson has recognised as well as the difference in reception to the way Michael Beale was welcomed to Scottish football in comparison to Postecoglou who had far more experience than the former QPR boss.

“They are a really good team. It’s mad to think that Ange was a laughing stock when he first came to Scotland. He was getting battered from pillar to post in the media but he’s always stayed with respect and quality really,” said Kevin Thomson speaking to Sky Sports.

“As an individual I think that he carries himself with real class. Which is refreshing because sometimes outside voices and the media can be difficult when you come under scrutiny.

“But I have to say that the way he has conducted himself has been a breath of fresh air. He’s got a real good team, his recruitment has been spot on, he’s embraced the pressure of having to win game after game.

“The European run might be a wee bit disappointing when he looks back on that but the same time domestically is really your bread and butter and domestically, so far so good.”

Thomson is not the first former Rangers player to come out and admit how well a job Postecoglou is doing at Celtic with the 57-year-old having gained respect from many in Scottish football.
