It’s being reported in Greece this evening Celtic striker Giakoumakis is on the brink of a Parkhead exit after undergoing a medical in Holland.

It’s been a day full of news on the Greek frontman. Atlanta was his preferred destination but Celtic blocked any move due to the MLS side only offering a loan with an option to buy in the summer.

Japanese side Urawa are the only club with a firm offer accepted by Celtic and the striker flew over to Amsterdam early on Friday to take part in a medical ahead of that move.

SDNA.gr revealed the player is now travelling BACK to Scotland and will complete the move from their before heading to Japan to meet his new teammates.

Until this deal is completely done, we wouldn’t bet against a change of heart from Giak if another club comes calling. Japan appeared to be the backup plan and since Celtic have only accepted that particular offer at the moment, the striker has decided to push forward.

Giakoumakis was instrumental in the second half of last season in winning back the SPFL title. It’s regrettable the player and the club couldn’t come to an agreement over a new deal, but that’s football.
